Through the Medicare and Medicaid EHR Incentive Programs, the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) is providing incentive payments to eligible health care professionals and hospitals who adopt certified electronic health record (EHR) technology and achieve Meaningful Use.
It pays to get started early!
- Up to $44,000 for eligible professionals (EPs) in the Medicare EHR Incentive Program
- Up to $63,750 for EPs in the Medicaid EHR Incentive Program
Requirements for Meaningful Use Incentives
To qualify for incentive payments, Meaningful Use requirements must be met in one of the following ways:
- Medicare EHR Incentive Program—EPs and Eligible Hospitals (EHs) must successfully demonstrate Meaningful Use of certified EHRs every year they participate in the program.
- Medicaid EHR Incentive Program—EPs and EHs may qualify for incentive payments if they adopt, implement or upgrade certified EHRs in their first participation year. For subsequent participation years, they must successfully demonstrate Meaningful Use.
